Contents page (Research)
Contents pages are also part of the magazine brief that we've been given, and I want mine to showcase runner-ups for a drawing competition (the cover page will feature the winning art piece), using relatively small images. The list of runner-ups might go under the Editor's Note, I'm not sure yet. Maybe the images could be in a collage and be the background for the contents. On the digital version of the magazine, these runner-up images can be enlarged, and on both the physical and digital versions, artist credit is given in the form of the artists' social media usernames, much in the same way as a photographer's name is put in the bottom corner of a picture used in a magazine.
What I like about this contents page is that the picture is eye-catching, and makes the reader stay on the page for a little longer. The contrast between the greyscale image and the red pop of colour is visually appealing, and the bold colour choice is effective in capturing the reader's attention (besides the main subject of the image being Kanye West). The font colour contrasts with the background, and the varying sizes and boldness draws our attention to certain topics (e.g. Features)
Another example of an engaging contents page, I like the red filter effect that the contents column has on the background image.
