Now that I have all of my work ready, I'm going to post behind-the-scenes content and teasers on the Instagram account I made for the music video, as well as the album (single) art. The username is @one.w.nine.5. https://instagram.com/one.w.nine.5?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Critical Reflection Essay

For my A2 production, I decided to create a music video, with my chosen medium being 2D animation. I went with a narrative, story-based structure for the video, and went through the processes of designing characters, storyboarding, animating and editing to produce the end product. The song I chose was a Japanese hip-hop song (“One W Nine Five”), because I liked the relaxed tone of it, and I built the video’s story around its vibe rather than its lyrics or beat. It took many listens and a lot of visualising before I had a concrete structure to go off of. Once I had a good grasp of the idea, I got to work on character design and storyboarding in my sketchbook. After that came the arduous process of animating each storyboard panel on a free software program called FireAlpaca, converting the short sequences into GIFs, and editing them together in Premier Pro. Music Video + Feedback

Here is the video. I showed it to a few people so I could get feedback and do the final editing. The general consensus was that the story was cohesive, but the cut to blacks and whites were jarring. I'll fix it to have smoother transitions, and animate opening and ending credits instead of using text. I'm also changing the subtitles to a speech bubble, as it's more in line with the motifs of my video.

I edited the music video in Windows Clipchamp to add the audio plus some ending credits. Below are some screenshots from Clipchamp.

Ending for the music video + More Animating + Editing

I put together a rough storyboard for the ending of the music video (not detailed for lack of time), and I'm done with all the animation for the music video. All that's left is editing the two parts together and adding the music. The song I've settled on is "One W Nine Five" by RIM, a Japanese hip-hop artist. Below are pictures of the storyboard and screenshots from both FireAlpaca and Premier Pro.
